The preview for Wild Rift Patch 4.0 has been revealed by Riot Games. The upcoming major update contains various new additions to the game, such as two new champions, skins, the return of ARURF game mode, and gameplay changes. Check out the highlights below.
New Champions
- Zoe, the Aspect of Twilight – This champion is categorized as a burst mage with spam teleport abilities and massive burst damage. She can also utilize the spells and enchantments of other players.
- Zeri, the Spark of Zaun – She is a marksman champion who receives an increase in movement speed when shielded. She is quite dexterous on the battlefield and can dash up walls to escape quickly.
Gameplay Updates
Wild Rift Patch 4.0 focuses on increasing the likelihood of comebacks while maintaining the game's frenetic pace. Patch 4.0 will therefore introduce the following changes:
- Inhibitors will now respawn after a certain period of time. Thus, if a team loses a minion early, the game will not feel over, and players will be able to focus more on the enemy team and less on their minions.
- As the game nears its conclusion, towers will begin to burn and eventually fall. This mechanic should not activate frequently, but when it does, players should feel compelled to push their advantages or overcome their disadvantages through team fights, as opposed to waiting or farming for extended periods.
Tank Changes
As a follow-up to the role work implemented in Patch 3.5 for the Jungle, Patch 4.0 will introduce some changes to tank items that will enhance the overall tank champion experience. The ultimate purpose of these item modifications is to make tank players' successes and accomplishments more visible to all players:
- [NEW] Dawnshroud: When you immobilize an enemy champion, the passive effect of Dawnshroud deals damage and reveals nearby enemy champions. This effect will also activate if you are rendered immobile.
- [REWORK] Randuin's Omen: When struck by a critical strike, you will now gain stacks. Attack a champion to consume the stacks and receive healing proportional to the damage you took. This replaces an old passive of the item that reduced damage from all critical strikes. Starting with this patch, you'll need to actively attack to maximize your damage reduction rather than passively gaining it. This will reward tanking skills and good decision-making.
- [REWORK] Frozen Heart: For 5 seconds, basic attacks and magic damage caused by you or inflicted on you and nearby teammates will apply stacks of Chill on the enemy champion. Each stack of Chill reduces the enemy's attack speed by a maximum amount. The developers hope that with a stacking debuff instead of a constant effect, Frozen Heart will have a greater overall effect.
Return of ARURF mode
All Random Ultra Rapid Fire (ARURF) Mode returns to the Rift in triumphant fashion. Play a completely random champion whose abilities have low cooldowns.
In addition, Execute-Smite will be introduced in this version of ARURF. Junglers may select Smite as usual, but Smite's effect will become passive instead of an active button. When you deal enough damage to a monster to reduce its health below Smite's total damage, the spell will automatically activate and smite the camp for you. In ARURF, there is no cooldown for this effect.
